The first is “Merch” — a rail with T-shirts, each showing one of the various sources of income
an artist may have. In Russia the artist is one of the rare professions in which only a small subset of people get profit from their artistic activities and successful interaction with the market does not equal the confirmation of one’s professional status.
Installation, 2020
The work consists of two separate objects forced to coexist together.
Can we put a price on art for art’s sake?
Who pays for it and how?
Is art really the only thing we are paying for?
Art is not a hobby. One of the most exciting collaborations of our time, Pomidor art team, presents its eagerly anticipated new collection! Manifest yourself in one of their new t-shirts,
or don’t.*
*on t-shirts: Artist-Polar explorer, Artist-Wife, Artist-Courier, Artist-heir, Artist-PR manager, Artist-banker, Artist-firefighter and etc.
”Puty 7432” is a composition of 7432 elements. The string with beads signifies the materialistic quality of time. One bead equals one day.
We have been keeping count of time this way since the 7th of May of the year 2000.
This day Vladimir Putin has been inaugurated
as a second president of Russian Federation.
From that moment on he has been in power.
Thus, 20 years of stability have been slid onto
the string.
All proceeds go toward projects by Pomidor group, including art piece “Puty 7432”, which is wrapped around the rail.
* ’Puty’ means ‘Fetters’ in Russian and it is a world play with Vladimir Putin surname.
